November Writing and Life Update
Hi, all! It’s fall and I’m back to posting. As many of you know, I get so busy in the warmer months that I don’t have much time to write or edit, but that will be changing going forward (more on that later).
I’m sure you’ve noticed new chapters of Bisclavret being published. That is my number one priority for the month of November. The book is already finished, and all I have to do is chapter edits before posting, so we should get to “The End” here shortly-ish. Over 110k words have been posted so far, and there’s about 70k left because your girl is a long-winded mother fucker.
Lately I’ve been posting chapters that were already edited, almost one a day, but that will be slowing down a little as I’m working with an injury right now.
I broke my finger and a tore a bunch of ligaments in my fingers/hand, so I’m in a splint that won’t come off for another two weeks *sob* and then I go to the orthopedic surgeon to see if I need surgery to fix it. I’m hoping I don’t, but if so, that will definitely impact how much work I get done – I’ll let you know either way when I find out.
After Bisclavret is finished, I’ll leave the chapters up as free-to-read for a while. I’d love your feedback on it – it truly helps make my books better, especially the more critical sort. And I know I’ve said it before, but you will not hurt my feelings. My books aren’t my babies, and I’m a critical reader myself, so I understand.
While I wait for Bisclavret to come back from my editor, I’m going to finish The Space Pirate’s Captive. It’s well over halfway done, and it’s super easy/fun to write, which I NEED after all the research and fact checking involved in editing a book based off a medieval werewolf story and a real but little-known rebellion in a remote corner of France against the revolutionary government in the 1790s (LOL, why do I do this shit to myself?).
After TSPC is Betrayal – again, it’s about halfway done. Then, The Lunatics: Volume Two.
I’ve seen some comments from frustrated readers about The Lunatics, and I get it. No one is more annoyed that it’s not finished than me. But I HATED the way I ended it, and I’ve re-written it twice now and am still unhappy. The best thing I can do is take a prolonged break from it and go back with fresh eyes and a new perspective. It has a much better chance of not sucking if I do it that way than if I try to force something that just isn’t working. No one will be happy if I publish a turd instead of a book I’m proud to have written.
I hope you understand and I truly am sorry for such a long delay.
On a more positive note, farm updates! The goats are loving the fall weather, maybe a little too much as the little heathens did escape last week due to a short in the electric fence. I swear they know immediately when it goes down, and sure enough, within a few minutes I got a frantic phone call from our neighbor about being invaded, again – sorry, Brad.
Other farm news includes being granted state funding for our 2 acre native wildflower field that we maintain for pollinators, a forester coming to mark trees for selective cutting, and veggie and cut flower garden cleanup.
The biggest news I have to share, and what I hinted at earlier, is that we’re moving! We’ve loved our time in rural New Hampshire, but my husband has a job opportunity in Maryland that we can’t pass up, so we’ll be making the trek sometime in late spring/early summer. The animals will be going to our good friends just down the road, and the state grants are all transferable to the next owners of this beautiful old farm, so we at least have peace of mind that the improvements we’ve made will live on.
Without so much work on our plates, that will free up a ton of time for me to focus on writing, and I’m hoping that going forward there will be far fewer interruptions in my posting schedule.
If you want to really keep up with my writing progress and plans, follow me over on TikTok. I’ve never really been active on social media before because I have enough of a history with anxiety and depression that they just weren’t healthy places for me, but the TikTok algorithm gods seem to love me, and I’ve curated my feed so all I see is bookish videos – heaven!
I like it over there, and I plan to stick around. I’ll also be doing some giveaways of rare ARCs and signed copies that won’t be available anywhere else, so make sure to check it out.
Hope you’re doing well in your little corner of the world!
I’m sorry you’re all busted up but I am really delayed in seeing this so I’m hoping by now you are healed. I’m excited for your move but I will selfishly miss seeing pics of your goats.
Thank you! Splint is off and I’m good now. No surgery needed thankfully!
